Edinburgh - 2nd Most Visited Tourist Destination in the UK
If you have property in Edinburgh and are thinking about becoming an Airbnb host, great news – Edinburgh is the 2nd most visited tourist destination in the UK. According to Airbnb, 163,600 guests visited Edinburgh between June and August in 2016; London was the only city to have more, but see the full list for yourself here.
But that isn’t the only list Edinburgh features in. When it comes to international visitors, the Office of National Statistics found that Edinburgh is the 2nd most visited UK city and in a 2016 survey by the Telegraph of best British cities to visit, Edinburgh came out top.
Edinburgh’s Tourist Attractions
It’s not just Edinburgh itself that’s reaching the top 10s, it’s also the attractions. Both Arthurs Seat and the Royal Yacht Britannia made the top 5 in Trip Advisors top 20 list of UK tourist attractions and according to the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions (ALVA), Edinburgh Castle earned the no 16 spot on the 20 most popular attractions in Britain after attracting 1.78 million guests in 2016; the top 10 list was filled, unsurprisingly, with London attractions. With London discounted, Edinburgh reached no 3!
What does this mean for me as an Airbnb host?
Edinburgh is a popular place to visit. It attracts millions of visitors every year, and they all need a place to sleep! Demand for accommodation is high and depending on the location of your property and how well you optimise your listing you shouldn’t struggle to fill your space, especially during the festival season and over Christmas and Hogmanay. The other benefit – rates are higher in popular areas, so money making potential is high.
If you have the space to spare in Edinburgh, becoming a host really could give you a financial boost, but good hosting takes time and getting it right can be a learning curve. But, you don’t have to try and manage everything yourself.
